We were featured in a Lokmat newspaper article published on 22 December 2022 for our work with children living on the footpaths around Panvel Railway Station.
The article highlighted how we started providing basic education to children who were living on the streets and were unable to access regular schooling. It explained that although government schemes exist to provide education to children, many vulnerable children still remain outside the formal education system.
They mentioned how our initiative brings these children together and provides them with regular learning for around two hours, with the support of young volunteers and professionals such as teachers, engineers, doctors and employees from private companies.
The article also spoke about how we go beyond education by providing food and celebrating the children’s birthdays, giving them experiences of dignity, care and belonging that they may otherwise miss.
They particularly highlighted the children’s growing interest in reading, writing and learning. The article described our efforts as a way of helping children overcome illiteracy, develop confidence and create better opportunities for their future.
For us, the article was meaningful because it recognized that our work is not simply about teaching children—it is about bringing hope where it is missing and creating an environment where vulnerable children can learn, grow and believe in a better future.
