Panvel, is a major population centre which is moving towards modernisation, has already begun to show itself as a developed city. The rise of New Panvel as a major residential and commercial magnet, has led to rapid infrastructural development in both the newer and older parts of the city.

Location

Panvel is in Raigad district, near both Greater Mumbai and Thane districts. Major nodes such as the Mumbai’s central suburbs, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan are easily reachable from Panvel, by road and rail. The junction of the Mumbai – Pune highway and Mumbai-Goa highway is also located at Panvel.

Another positive with Panvel is its proximity to major industrial parks. Large plants such as that of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Reliance, ONGC etc. are present in and around Panvel. It also serves as a convenient residential destination for people working in Vashi, Kopar Khairane, Kharghar and CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai. The introduction of hyperloop will make commuting to and fro from Panvel to Pune in 30 minutes.

In addition, Panvel is likely to become one of India’s biggest logistics hubs. It would soon be viewed as a business hub with IT parks, industrialisation, major infrastructural development. The proposed Trans-Harbour link from Uran to Sewri also holds out much promise, connecting Panvel to Mumbai harbour and sharply reducing the travel time between these places. Central Railways too is planning a Terminus for long distance trains at Panvel, to decongest CST.

As mentioned earlier, the Navi Mumbai international airport promises to be a game-changer in Panvel and its surrounding areas. This airport, which is projected to serve a whopping 90 million passengers per year by 2030, will make Panvel a major destination for travellers from Mumbai, Pune and other areas further away. With many hotels, industries, quality roads and other support services coming up as a result, plenty of employment opportunities will be created and demand for quality housing is likely to shoot up.

Panvel is divided into Old Panvel and New Panvel. Nearest station after Panvel is Khandeshwar.

New Panvel is strategically located on the eastern side of the Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway (NH-4) and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. It is well connected to rest of India by road and railway.

New Panvel is divided in two parts – New Panvel East and New Panvel West (commonly known as Khanda Colony). They have 19 and 23 sectors respectively.

New Panvel is just adjacent to the proposed Navi Mumbai International airport. It has several schools, colleges and hospitals to meet the needs of its resident. It’s a promising place for students, because of various reputed institutes, Hostel facilities, and many new developments to come with the change of time.

On the other hand, Khandeshwar is one of the recently developed nodes of Navi Mumbai and is also a railway station on the harbour line of the Mumbai suburban railway network. It is also connected by the Navi Mumbai Metro. Khandeshwar is a rapidly developing city like Panvel.
